Savage Town-Review
by Ashish Thomas
We had the distinct pleasure of getting an advanced copy of Savage Town from Image Comics. I was very excited because I am a big fan of Declan Shalvey’s and his work couldn’t wait to read Savage Town.
Savage Town takes place in Limerick City, Ireland and Introduces the world to Jimmy Savage part of the criminal underworld in Limerick City. Limerick City Criminal underground is divided into three families the Hogans, the Dawsons, and Jimmy Savage. Through the course of events, Jimmy is a dangerous place with both the Dawson’s and The Hogans where one wrong move everything would fall on Jimmy. Jimmy agrees to hold something from the Hogans to avoid suspicion. Everything Jimmy has done could cause Jimmy harm or worse get him killed. It seems Jimmy schemes could have him in trouble with the Hogans and the Dawson’s. Will Jimmy be able to fix all the problem and come out smelling like a rose or will Jimmy Savage end up getting taken care of in this scheme? The only way to find out is to check out Savage Town.
Savage Town is a rare graphic novel that mixes crime drama with comedy several times reading Savage Town I cracked up and several times reading made me go WTF its a mark of a great comic. The characters of Savage Town are developed and would love to see several graphic novels involving Jimmy Savage and Limerick City Ireland. Declan Shalvey again hits it out of the park with the writing of the graphic novel. Every aspect of the graphic novel is well thought out. This is how crime fiction should be written. The art of Philip Barrett and Jordie Bellaire bring to life Jimmy Savage and the town. Everything looks amazing, and the art makes the violence and brutality look breathtaking. Savage Town is a great crime fiction story with comedic elements a thoroughly enjoyable read. makes me want more Jimmy Savage stories as well as a Guinness and a visit to Ireland.
