Powers-So this is what it’s like to be a Hero
Sexy Drugs and Powers
So recently I purchased an amazing limited Edition Arkham Knight PS4 console one of the perks of getting the new PS4 was that Season one of Powers was free on the PlayStation Network.
If you haven’t heard of Powers it is based on the iconic comic series written by the Iconic Brian Michael Bendis’s and Michael Avon Oeming.
If you have not picked up the Graphic Novels I highly recommend it amazing reads. It has been a long journey for Powers to come to television but the wait was well worth it.
On to the review
What the trailer for season 1 here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8qukpfAolY
This is a review of the whole season as one arc
I have to say this is one of the best well written shows on television right now.
There are so many great sub plot threads however you don’t have to be familiar with the powers graphic novels to enjoy the episodes.
Here is a short Synopsis of Powers.
Powers people with super powers exist in the real world, they are like our current you tube and social media stars with a sense of social justice. Part of the police department, Powers Division monitors and regulates people with powers.
The series focuses on Christian Walker a detective at the Powers division who was one of the most famous powered people named Diamond unfortunately he lost his powers in a battle with the villainous Wolf and laments it.
The show opens with a bang with Christian’s partner being killed by a power and that’s when you meet the other hero Deena Pilgrim a non-powered detective who joins the force.
There first case is to investigate the death of Olymipa a powered person who died under suspicious circumstances. There is a drug on the street sway which allows users to gain powers. It turns out that Sway is being sold by Johnny Royale a “bad” Power who people thought was dead.
This is where powers begin as you go through the season you see how these powers have become the actors of the generation and that every aspect of their life is controlled by fame.
There is also an anti-powers movement which eventually crosses with the main story line effortlessly and Powers division creating a drainer-a unit that drains power from people.
Also the performances of Eddie Izzard as Wolfe and Noah Taylor as Johnny Royale were remarkable.
I also want to see more of Deena Pilgrim (Susan Hayward)
The show has many plotlines which often weave and intersect and season 1 ends in a bang and builds anticipation for Season 2 which is in production now. .
Hopefully next season we see more of Triphammer and the dynamic between Diamond, Triphammer and Retro girl’s pasts.
If you don’t have a PlayStation there is hope. The season is being released on DVD and Blu-ray on July 14, 2015 get it here.
