NYCC 2017 Panels to Visit
By Alexandra Wilson
With each year, NYCC only gets bigger and bigger. So much so, that New York Comic Con has expanded outside of the Javits Center and into other locations like Hammerstein Ballroom, the New York Public Library on 5th Avenue and more. As you’re putting together your cosplay for this year’s con, make sure to put the below panels on your “must see” list.
THURSDAY
Cartoon Network Presents: Steven Universe, 10:30 – 11:30 AM
Hammerstein Ballroom
If you’re just “considering” the idea of jumping into the show, this panel will change your mind. It’s no secret that Steven Universe is one of the best shows on television right now, and seeing the love and passion of fans in person will convince you how original this show really is. Plus, seeing Rebecca Sugar IRL is something that’s got to be on your bucket list, right?
YogaQuest Presents The Legend of Zelda: a Narrated Yogic Adventure, 1:15 – 2 PM
Family HQ
Not that we go to NYCC to get our workout in, but this sounds incredibly fun! The Legend of Zelda combined with yoga, led by a narrator who is playing the ocarina? We’re in. (This might even make exercise fun for a change.)
FRIDAY
Exclusive NYCC First Look: Gotham By Gaslight, 4:15 – 5:15 PM
Main Stage 1-D
Warner Brothers Home Entertainment usually have a strong NYCC presence, and they won’t be disappointing fans this time around. With Bruce Timm and Jim Krieg scheduled to attend the event, DC will be showcasing their newest animated film – Gotham By Gaslight. In the film, a steampunk Batman takes on Jack the Ripper in a turn-of-the-century Gotham. And yes, somebody will probably already have a steampunk Batman cosplay pulled together for this.
Image Comics: The Future of Genre, 6:45 – 7:45 PM
1A21
If you’ve recently picked up an independent comic and think it’s the best thing you’ve ever read, it probably came from Image. This panel promises to take Images’s best and brightest and have them share their thoughts on what the future of comic books looks like. Will it all become superheroes? Or is there room for horror, sci-fi, and fantasy? Nobody knows for sure, but Image probably knows best.
SATURDAY
From A Certain Point of View: A Star Wars 40th Anniversary Celebration, 11 AM – 12:30 PM
Hudson Mercantile
Looking to celebrate your favorite parts of Star Wars with your favorite celebrities? Look no further than this event. Creator Kieron Gillen, Benjamin Acker, Delilah Dawson and plenty more will be at the panel, sharing their experiences and geeking out about Star Wars right alongside you.
The Comic Book Elements of Avatar and Korra, 1:45 – 2:45 PM
1A21
If you’ve been loving The Legend of Korra comic book follow-up, go to this panel. The creative team behind both the comic and show will be here to give you behind-the-scenes information on the next chapter, which will be published by Dark Horse in early 2018. Nickelodeon always has a fun NYCC presence, so odds are this panel will be the same.
SUNDAY
The Exorcist, 4 – 5 PM
1A10
This FOX TV show is way better than it has the right to be, and we’ve fallen head over heels for its totally creepy vibe. It’s the perfect panel to leave NYCC and segue right into Halloween mode with. Happy Comic-Coning!
