Confession – I love dreaming about the potential movies that will be made about my favorite books and comics than I do actually watching the movies. It’s a sad fact of life that when it comes to adaptations, Hollywood can mess them up with one poor casting decision. In the event that Hollywood ever does come to me for casting advice, I’ll direct them here. HEY HOLLYWOOD – here are some great casting picks for your upcoming projects.
For Bloodshot: Daniel Cudmore
Bloodshot is one of Valiant Entertainment’s cornerstone heroes. If you’re not familiar with Valiant, understand that Bloodshot to Valiant is what Wolverine is to Marvel. He’s super strong, super smart, and is great with guns; he’s got all of the superpowers of your favorite superheroes packed into one. Though the character is strong and muscular, he’s also smart and showcases his emotional side. So we pick Daniel Cudmore, who is best known for playing Colossus in X-Men: Days of Future Past. We know he can act under heavy CGI and makeup, and also that he’s built for the part.
For Alana: Gugu Mbatha-Raw
Someday, though we don’t know when, there will be an adaptation of Saga. Aside from being one of the most popular comic books of the day, it will be an excellent exercise in combining technology with storytelling in a way that no company has done before. Of course, they’ll need a leading lady who is as tough as she is caring, and for that – we pick Gugu Mbatha-Raw. She’ll be appearing in the upcoming Beauty and the Beast adaptation as well as Disney’s take of A Wrinkle in Time. Her body of work is perfect training for a role like Alana.
For Yorick Brown: Iain De Caestecker
Alas, poor Yorick. Hollywood has tried to adapt Y: The Last Man time and time again, but the project has never gotten off the ground. As the only man left on Earth (allegedly), Yorick needs to be played by somebody who can hold his own against a mostly female cast – but can also be dramatic and funny when the time calls for it. For that, we’ve chosen Iain De Caestecker who plays Agent Leo Fitz on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The actor has a surprisingly large range, and we’d love to see Caestecker get a larger role in his next project.
For Bitch Planet: The Cast of Orange is the New Black
Okay, okay – this is technically cheating because it would be ridiculous for the entire cast of one show to collectively go to another one. However, if there were any two projects that this should happen for – it should be these two. Bitch Planet and Orange is the New Black are only similar in that both projects are about women in prison, but the perspectives on each of these stories are very different. We’d love to see more of the entire OINTB cast, especially Uzo Aduba, Danielle Brooks, and Kate Mulgrew – and they’d be perfect in this series.
